AI and Dogs Team Up to Detect Cancer with 94% Accuracy

AI is enhancing dogs’ ability to detect cancer, making it more accurate and reliable. A new method uses AI to interpret the dogs' signals, achieving 94% accuracy in cancer detection.

The Details

Labrador retrievers were trained to sniff out the odors of breast, lung, colorectal, and prostate cancer. While the dogs can detect these scents, interpreting their signals is difficult for humans. AI helps by analyzing the dogs' body language with machine learning and computer vision, making the process more accurate.

In a trial with nearly 1,400 breath samples, the system identified 245 cancer cases with remarkable accuracy. It also produced only 60 false positives from 1,048 healthy samples. The technology works for both early and late-stage cancer detection.
