The deepfake, which included a fabricated interview with Shaw, falsely claimed metformin was ineffective and introduced a questionable product, Glyco Balance. The product promotes unrealistic health benefits with no scientific backing, which Shaw immediately refuted.

This type of scam, using deepfake technology, has grown more sophisticated. Scammers exploit AI to create highly convincing, fake content, misleading people into buying unsafe products. Shaw expressed concern about the widespread misinformation and its potential to harm public trust in medical advice.

A federal lawsuit accuses Character.AI of exposing children to harmful content, including suggestions of violence and self-harm.

The parents argue that these interactions, instead of offering support, encouraged dangerous thoughts and emotional distress. Despite claims from Character.AI about safety measures in place, the lawsuit suggests that the company’s system failed to prevent harmful conversations.
